Hi everyone! The re:power team just got back from a week in Philadelphia, PA hanging out with organizers and activists from across the country at Netroots Nation 2019. Here’s a quick look at what we got up to:
re:power showed up strong this year at #NN19 with presence on three panels/trainings, a booth in the exhibition hall, and a social event to meet and greet our community members.
Jenn Pae, our VP of Trainings and Leadership Development, moderated a panel called “Sparkle or Shade: Let’s Get Real About Inclusive Politics,” which was focused on what it looks like to center the people that we say we’re working with and for — in our organizations, our campaigns, our communities, and our lives.
Our Executive Director, Karundi Williams, spoke on a panel (“Black, Brown and In Charge: New Movement Leaders and the Future of the Left”) of national black leaders about what it means to be in leadership as a black woman and helm an organization focused on capacity building and development for communities of color:
Jane Booth-Tobin, our Director of Digital Organizing and Trainer Development, held a training with alumna Ari Trujillo on “Equity in Tech: Building the Leadership of Women and People of Color,” focused on what it takes to actually build, lead, manage, and retain diverse teams.
It was a great week in Philadelphia, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new supporters — here’s to next year!
